Good Evening Class below is the homework assigned for each class. Please scroll down to your corresponding grade and the assignment will be there for you to copy and answer. Remember vocabulary words are written down on index cards following the procedure we spoke about in class.

Grades 7th and 8th

Note to the entire 7th& 8thGrade class please take the time to read the Reading Essentials Science Workbook, pages 135-138 and (WRITE OUT THE QUESTIONS) in your homework notebook. Please do not write inside the workbook, as we need to preserve the workbooks for the following years to come! Answer the following questions #1-10 located on the side panel of each page. Write out the questions inside your homework notebook and answer  #1-3 on page 139. Draw out the diagram to question #2 on page 139 and answer the following question that pertains to the diagram.

 Write all vocabulary words on index cards with the word on the blank side and definitions on the side with the lines. These Vocabulary words will be used for entrance/exit tickets.

Vocabulary:

Dimension – distance or length measured in one direction
Distance – the distance an object moves is the actual length of its path
Speed – is a measure of the distance an object travels per unit of time
Constant Speed – is the rate of change of position in which the same distance is traveled each second

Grade 6

Write all vocabulary words on index cards with the word on the blank side and definitions on the side with lines. These Vocabulary words will be used for entrance/exit tickets.

Answer the following questions below using the your class notes.
1.    What does a chemical formula show?
2.    How are atoms building blocks of matter?
3.    Name one example of something that is a substance.

Vocabulary:for those who have not copied Vocabs on Monday here is your chance to make it up and receive a grade. 

Matter - is anything that has mass and takes up space.
Atom - is a small particle that is a building block of matter.
Substance - is matter with a composition that is always the same. 
Element - is a substance that consists of just one type of atom.
Compound - is a type of substance containing atoms of two or more elements chemically bonded together.

Grade 5

Please answer the following questions in your Integrated Science Reading Essentials workbook. (WRITE OUT THE QUESTIONS) inside your homework notebook, Read pages NOS1 and NOS2 and answer the following questions 1-3.

Write all vocabulary words on index cards with the word on the blank side and definitions on the side with the lines. These Vocabulary words will be used for entrance/exit tickets.

Vocabulary:

Observation- The act of using one or more of your senses to gather information and take note of what occurs.
Inference – a logical explanation of an observation that is drawn from prior knowledge or experience.
Prediction- a statement of what will happen next in a sequence of events.
Technology- is the practical use of scientific knowledge especially for industrial or commercial use.
Critical Thinking- comparing what you already know with information you are given in order to decide whether you agree with it.

Grade 4

Please answer the following questions that were written down in class. Use the resources provided to answer the questions about the scientific method. Questions will be based on the information found in pages 2-5.

1)    Why are Jim & Francesca studying Volcanoes like Mt. Vesuvius?
2)    Why is using the scientific method important to their resources?

Vocabulary:  The vocabulary may look repeated but the definitions are different and extended from yesterday’s vocab.


Scientific Method- Explains that a method is a specific way of doing something to get a desired result, therefore the scientific method is a specific way of doing science. 

Variable- is commonly used to describe something that changes, the scientific use is specifically used to describe something that can change in an experiment.

Hypothesis-Hypo means underand thesis means an unproven statement or idea. The underlying idea , statement or premise.

Grade 3

Vocabulary:

Trait- a feature of a living thing 
Variation-a difference among the same type of plant or animal
Reproduction- the making of offspring
Inherit- a characteristic that is passed from parents to offspring
Germinate- (of a seed or spore) come to existence and develop, the process by which an organism from a seed or similar structure.
