Homework for all Grades November 1, 2018 5:21 pm

Grades 7th and 8th

Study the Vocabulary words for Entrance ticket on Newton’s First Law of Motion. Please be mindful on the steps you take to study these words as I will write out the word and you will provide me with the definitions.

Vocabulary :
contact force - a push or pull on an object by another object that is touching it
force- a push or pull on an object
friction- force that resists the motion of two surfaces that are touching
gravity- attractive force that exists between all objects that have mass
mass- amount of matter in an object
noncontact force- a force one object can apply to another object without touching it
significant- important; momentous
static- at rest or having no motion
weight- gravitational force exerted on an object

Grade 6

Study for entrance ticket tomorrow on the remainder of words. Please be mindful on the steps you take to study these words as I write out the word and you will provide me with the definitions.

Check on google classroom the worksheets uploaded that you will be needing finish and submit them to me on docs or physically in class. Documents “Forms of Energy” & “Island on Fire”

Vocabulary: Transition onto index cards

chemical energy stored in and released from the bonds between atoms
electric energy in an electric current
energy ability to cause change
kinetic energy energy due to motion
mechanical energy sum of potential energy and kinetic energy in a system
nuclear energy stored in and released from the nucleus of an atom
potential energy stored energy due to the interaction between objects or particles
radiant energy carried by electromagnetic waves
sound energy carried by sound waves
speed distance an object moves per unit of time
thermal energy sum of kinetic energy and potential energy of the particles that make up an object
wave disturbance that transfers energy from one place to another without transferring matter

Triple Beam Balance -The triple beam balance is used to measure masses very precisely; the reading error is 0.05 gram. With the pan empty, move the three sliders on the three beams to their leftmost positions, so that the balance reads zero.

Finish skill sheet provided to you on chocolate crisis and finish the chart on classifying matter these two information will be posted and uploaded on google docs

Vocabulary: Transition onto index cards

atom - small particle that is the building block of matter

chemical change - a change in matter in which the substances that make up the matter change into other substances with different chemical and physical properties

compound - substance made of two or more elements that are chemically joined in a specific combination

element - substance made of only one kind of atom

heterogeneous mixture - a mixture in which the substances are not evenly mixed

homogeneous mixture - a mixture in which two or more substances are evenly mixed, but not bonded together

individual - single; separate

matter - anything that has mass and takes up space

mixture - matter that can vary in composition

molecule - two or more atoms that are held together by chemical bonds and act as a unit

substance - matter with a composition that is always the same
